Photography Courses and Workshops

Based at the beautiful location of Biggin Hall Country House Hotel and surrounding area in the Derbyshire Peak District.

Your photographic exploration of the Peak District starts here at Biggin Hall Hotel with your tour leader Chris Gilbert.

Chris is a Peak District local and works closely with the Peak District National Park Authority to promote the area.

Our Photography Breaks exploit his local knowledge and his photographic expertise to provide the best Peak District photography experience, whether you are here to learn the essential skills of landscape and nature photography or here simply to enjoy your own photography in a relaxed and unhurried fashion.

Your photography course is planned around the prevailing weather and includes as little or as much tuition that you wish.

A good road and footpath network make the Peak District a brilliant place to visit, explore and photograph.

We start and finish each day here at our beautiful hotel and the emphasis is very much on the photography, visiting whatever locations are best under the conditions, which in winter might involve a trip to some of our more accessible moorlands while a Spring visit to our wonderful Orchid-filled meadows is a must.

What we won’t do is coop you up in a studio with a computer !

The prices for our Photography Breaks include accommodation, breakfast and evening meals, a packed lunch, all in-course transport and tutoring.

Biggin Hall sits at the head of Biggin Dale, a long, dry valley stretching to the River Dove at Peaseland Rocks.

In wet winters an underground spring emerges, creating a running stream that is half the length of the dale until it joins the River Dove.

In Spring the dale had a colourful spattering of wild flowers such as purple orchids, cowslips and harebells which attract a large number of butterflies and insects.

Small areas of semi-natural ash woodlands occur on the scree with an understory including hazel & hawthorn – ground flora includes dogs mercury, wood anemone and broadleaved hellebores.
